Robert Niemann’s artwork captures intimate human situations detached from their spacial environment; moments in time that express quiet reflectiveness and contemplation.

Photographic studies of friends and close associates are transferred to large format paper using colour and led pencil with extreme precision and a keen eye to detail. The intensity of the images against a white background, absorb and captivate the onlooker. Beyond the beauty and sensuality of the subject, however, hidden desires and subconscious personal emotion reveal themselves to the observer. Pictures of great silence that separate the ego from a tumultuous world.

Recent drawings broach the polarity of supersaturation and insatiability of the human individual. By artistic techniques like repetition, mirroring, and defamiliarization, Robert gives a metaphorical interpretation of the narcissistic facets of human existence. He lives and works in Berlin.
